Data-Driven Model for Spontaneous Smiles

چکیده
We present a generative model for spontaneous smiles that preserves their dynamics and can thus be used to generate genuine animations. We use a high-resolution motion capture dataset of spontaneous smiles to represent the accurate temporal information present in spontaneous smiles. The smile model consists of data-driven interpolation functions generated from a Principal Component Analysis model and two blendshapes, neutral and peak. We augment the model for facial deformations with plausible, correlated head motions as observed in the data. The model was validated in two perceptual experiments that compared animations generated from the model, animations generated directly from motion capture data, and animations with traditional blendshape-based approaches with ease-in/ease-out interpolation functions. Animations with model interpolation functions were rated as more genuine than animations with ease-in/ease-out interpolation functions for different computergenerated characters. Our results suggest that data-driven interpolation functions accompanied by realistic head motions can be used by animators to generate more genuine smiles than animations with generic ease-in/ease-out interpolation functions.

Origins of smile and laughter: a preliminary study.
To present fundamental data, spontaneous smiles and spontaneous laughs (smiles accompanied by vocal sounds) were cross-sectionally observed in 10 newborn infants and longitudinally observed in six infants. Unilateral spontaneous smiles were more common than bilateral smiles in neonates, but by 2 months almost all spontaneous smiles were bilateral. All spontaneous laughs were bilateral. "Spontan...

Abstract The spontaneous emission spectrum from a driven three-level atom placed inside a double-band photonic crystal has been investigated. We use the model which assumes the upper levels of the atomic transition are coupled via a classical driving field. The transition from one of the upper levels to lower level couples to the modes of the modified reservoir, and the transition from the oth...
متن کاملCan we observe spontaneous smiles in 1-year-olds?
Five infants were observed longitudinally. In over 30 h of observations, seven spontaneous smiles and one spontaneous laugh were found. All smiles were observed in infants between the ages of 10 and 15 months. These data indicate that spontaneous smiles do not disappear at 2 months of age and they still exist at over 15 months. This disproves some emotional expression theories, where spontaneou...
متن کاملCharacterization of spontaneous network-driven synaptic activity in rat hippocampal slice cultures
A particular characteristic of the neonatal hippocampus is the presence of spontaneous network-driven oscillatory events, the so-called giant depolarizing potentials (GDPs). GDPs depend on the interplay between GABA and glutamate. Early in development, GABA, acting on GABAA receptors, depolarizes neuronal membranes via a Cl- efflux. Glutamate, via AMPA receptors, generates a positive feedback n...
